Registration Fees & DNA Requirments

The following fees apply to the recording and registration of animals in the Society Flock Book and Online Registry. DNA testing requirements for pedigree registrations are outlined below.

All fees shown include VAT where applicable.

Please note:

  • Please note that all lambs born in 2026 must be registered using the letter ‘N’. This applies to all registrations for the current year.
  • DNA testing is compulsory for all lambs eligible for pedigree registration.
  • All sheep must be fully registered by 18 months of age. Registrations submitted after this deadline will incur a higher fee and DNA parentage verification costs.
  • DNA Profiling refers to the collection of a DNA sample from the animal being registered to confirm its genetic identity and create its DNA profile. If DNA profiles for the recorded sire and dam are already on record, the laboratory will automatically compare the profiles to verify parentage.
  • DNA Parentage Verification confirms the recorded parentage of an animal by comparing DNA profiles from the animal being registered and its recorded sire and dam. DNA samples may be required from all three animals if DNA profiles for the sire and/or dam are not already on record.

DNA profiling is not required for birth notification.

Listed Animals

Listing animals in the register is free of charge.
If a certificate is required, the following fee applies:

Certificate for Listed Animal: £12.00

Male – Listed (Not registered for pedigree breeding)
Female – Listed (Not registered for pedigree breeding)
Male Spitti – Listed (Not eligible for pedigree breeding)
Castrate – Listed (Non-breeding)

Listed animals are not fully registered pedigree animals. Certificates are optional but may be purchased as proof of breeding or pedigree background. DNA profiling is not required for listed animals.

Natural Service (NS) and Artificial Insemination (AI)

Registration Male: £25.20 + DNA Profiling
Registration Female: £15.00 + DNA Profiling
Registration Female Spitti: £15.00 + DNA Parentage Verification

Late Registration Male & Female (18 months after birth): £150.00 + DNA Parentage Verification

Embryo Transfer (ET)

Registration ET Male: £221.20 + DNA Parentage Verification 
Registration ET Female: £221.20 + DNA Parentage Verification
Registration ET Female Spitti: £221.20 + DNA Parentage Verification

DNA Profiling (cost per sample)

Choose one DNA sampling method per animal.

DNA Blood Card: £28.80
DNA Nasal Swab: £31.80
DNA Ear Tissue Tag: £28.80

When DNA Parentage Verification is required, DNA samples must be provided for the animal being registered and its recorded sire and dam. If DNA profiles for the sire and/or dam are already on record, additional samples will not be required.

DNA Profiling + Optional Scrapie Testing (cost per sample)

DNA Blood Card + Scrapie: £43.20
DNA Nasal Swab + Scrapie: £46.20
DNA Ear Tissue Tag + Scrapie: £43.20

Scrapie testing is an optional genetic test used to determine an animal’s resistance to scrapie.
